Nathaniel Grann – Midwest Sentimental

Nathaniel Grann – Midwest Sentimental

As we know, you can never really leave family behind. You can run away and try to escape it, but it generally draws you back. Your family history is always going to be a part of your life. Photographer Nathaniel Grann spent three years living in his mother's basement during his mid-twenties. Over these three years, he encountered love, sadness and humour, and sought to find out what makes a family click, and what makes it move on from a troubled past. Grann may not have found definitive answers to those questions, but his photographs of that time, featuring the strange furnishings in the house, and the peculiar habits of his family, are oddly familiar and universal, a depiction of both beautiful and painful memories.

64 pages, 29 x 22 cm, hard cover, Peperoni Books (Berlin)
